The Lower Mainland Amazing Race
It's a competition loosely based on the reality TV series, "The Amazing Race". The annual game is hosted and organized by Brad Butchard and it takes place in Vancouver's Lower Mainland in British Columbia, Canada. Each team consists of two people just like in the show and we drive to different places to complete various tasks. There is no monetary prize for coming in first place, only a trophy and bragging rights, but the activities within the race make the entry fee ($120 per team) more than a bargain! It was my second time to participate in this race with Shellaine. I got to fly in an ultralight, hit balls in a batting cage, do a little archery, ride a choo choo train, and paddle a kayak!!! We didn't even know some of the places we were sent to existed, which was part of the fun. After the race was over, Doreen (Brad's wife) prepared a dinner for all of us. We all discussed and compared the efficiency and inefficiency of each other's performance (I've always enjoyed that part). Shellaine and I finished fifth out of twelve teams, but we were the only team to walk away with a prize ($50 gift certificate to a winery). Yay!!! Just watch out for us next year. Check out more of the photos here or click the link "Lower Mainland Amazing Race 2007" in the "Photo Galleries" section in the right column of this site. I'm still waiting for the kayaking photos, so I'll be adding them a little later. Also, take a look at the video below from my flight on the ultralight. If you're interested in competing next year or if you want more information on the race, click here or on the title. It's so much fun, I totally recommend it!!!
