Austin Trip (Day 4)

This morning, we decided to have breakfast on the hotel's patio. We had a big day ahead of us, a road trip to San Antonio! Oops! An accidental shot... The hotel provided free breakfast throughout our whole stay! My new water bottle in burnt orange, the team colour of the Texas Longhorns... Scarlett just loves her Buzz Lightyear outfit. Angela just loves to boogie! Graham and Sarah suggested we stop by a little town called Gruene to see "one of the oldest dance halls in Texas"! A group shot inside the hall... You can tell there's a lot of history in here. Apparently, John Travolta filmed a scene from "Michael" here. A cowboy by the bar... Time to dance! I love the neon signs! There goes my baby! She just loves to dance. And pose. ;-) This is the new digital camera Angela just bought! It's the Canon SD1400 IS and it's pretty. A shot of us outside the hall's entrance... Zoom, zoom... The mother and daughter team... Where's my baby going? The Gruene General Store... So many goodies in this place! Oh great, a biker chic. LOL! Nice bike! They've got wine, but sorry... They don't serve alcohol before noon. :-( The small town appeal... This is how you guard your place from peeping toms. ;-) A classic water tower... I liked the colour of this wall, so I got Angela to pose in front of it. We finally arrived in San Antonio! That's there post office and court house. This building reminds me of Gastown. Walking alongside the walls of the fort... A memorial to the fallen heroes from the Battle of the Alamo... And there it is! Quite the tourist attraction... Angela & the Alamo... I took some time to "remember the Alamo". ;-) There are so many photo ops here! Nice fountain... Awww, these flowers look so sad. :-( We walked around in the garden. These were some of the tools and weapons used back in the day. Posing with the flags... I got whistles from this one. LOL! The history of the Alamo were displayed on these large boards. A big tree... So this is how it looked before all the battles. "Canon to the left of them..." More cacti... The Defenders of the Alamo Memorial... Sarah and Scarlett waited in the shade. The fallen heroes... After visiting the famous fort, we made our way to the San Antonio Riverwalk. Angela heard it was a must see of the city. It's beautiful here! It was a cross between the Venetian's Grand Canal Shoppes and Disneyland. "Hi Pretty!" There's nothing like this back home. :-( The city's streets are just above us. Kissing time! Angela & the Riverwalk... Scarlett's hungry! We decided to have lunch at the County Line for some Barbecue. "Hi Honey!" Group shot... Look at the size of my Strawberry Lemonade! Angela and I shared the Rib King Platter! They've got hotels along the river. Some live entertainment... The adoring crowd... This place is worth another visit. Time to leave. :-( Wow, a '57 Chevy! Nice car. Superman and his fan at Louis Tussaud's Waxworks... "Life is like a box of chocolates." This one is for Mrs. Skalenda. ;-) Yeah, that's right. Back in Austin now... We went to the Continental Club for another performance. I took a few more shots of the interior this time. The leisure room in the back... The performer's merchandise on sale... The floor... The front bar... Looks like Ang got a new shirt! "You're drinking?!?" I like the neon sign of Mercury. The stage... Junior Brown and his wife, Tanya Rae Brown were performing tonight! It was a very entertaining performance! We went to Torchy's Tacos for a little snack. Great tasting tacos from here! A little later, Graham and Ang dropped me off at the HighBall for some karaoke and to meet Steve! This bowling alley used to be in New Orleans' oldest bowling centre, Rock and Bowl! When Rock and Bowl moved to another location, the owners of the HighBall bought the entire contents of the original centre and reassembled them here in Austin! They also have a huge lounge and dining area at this place! I love the decor here! Yay! Bequi and Steve have arrived! Sadly, we had to leave because there was an hour wait for the karaoke rooms. :-( Instead, they took me to Epoch Coffee where it seemed everyone had a laptop! I couldn't get over it. LOL! Big smiles from Bequi and me... This Hot Mexican Chocolate was really good! The last time Steve and I saw each other was 2 years ago! He came to visit Vancouver and help out with the auctioning of the "Battlestar Galactica" props. Big thanks to Graham and Sarah for our day trip to San Antonio!!! And gratitude to Bequi and Steve for the little tour of Austin tonight!!!
